Bellingham Farmers Market

On: May 25th, 2008 at 11:30 am | In: resources

The Bellingham Farmers Market is my absolute favorite market to visit, and it’s open for eight months out of the year. So, for those four months it’s closed, I get to wait patiently anxiously. My Saturdays are pretty full these days, so it wasn’t until last weekend that we were able to go. And when we got there, it was everything I remembered it to be: great food, fun vendors, and fabulous produce. I also happen to think farmers markets are a great wedding resource.

So here’s the plan. I’m going to write posts on a few of the vendors I met and enjoy and how they relate to weddings. Stay tuned for the first installment on Texture Clothing.

Craig’s List Find: Gown Closeout Sales

On: May 22nd, 2008 at 10:30 pm | In: life's eventful

Since most of Craig’s List wedding items are made up of dresses, it can be tough to weed through all of them to find something that’s really you. So rather than posting about individual dresses, I’m going to show two gown sales in Washington instead.

Craig’s List Find #8

Cheap Wedding Dresses $25!!! (Bellevue)

Reply to: sale-687705851@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-05-20, 1:57AM PDT

Wedding & Formal Dresses SALE

Wedding Gowns will be priced from $25 to $50 each (I have about 40 wedding gowns)

Formal Gowns will be priced about $10 each (I believe I have about 100 formal gowns) sizes 0 to 26

Friday May 23rd from 10 am to 2 pm
Saturday May 24th from 10 am to 4 pm
(We will open and close at those times please no early or late birds)

Cash Only

Location: 4511 134th PL SE, Bellevue WA 98006 – the sale will be in the driveway only and there will be no bathrooms available. We will also not have an “official” changing room so if you want to try the gowns on, I suggest you wear form fitting clothing so you can slip the dress on over your clothes.

What type of gowns do I have? I have all different colored formal gowns and wedding gowns, some have trains some do not. Most of the gowns are recent but we do have a few vintage gowns as well.

Why are the gowns so cheap, and what is wrong with them? Well, I just moved and I am selling the last bit of inventory I had from my business. There is nothing “wrong” with the gowns; they are not out dated or have huge sleeves from the 80’s, some of the gowns may need to be cleaned or a loose bead may need to be fixed. Some of the gowns have the tags on them but most of them have been a store sample, which means some of the gowns have been tried on before.

Due to the large number of gowns I will not be able to look for specific sizes, colors, or styles before the sale on Friday. I will not be able to hold any gowns either.

The gowns in the pictures are a few gowns that will actually be sold. These gowns are only a sample of the gowns being sold. If you are interested in taking a look at the type of formal gowns being sold please take a look at Cheap Formal Dresses listing.

Thanks for looking!

Oldest Wedding Website

On: May 22nd, 2008 at 6:04 pm | In: giveaway

Okay, that title is a little misleading. It’s actually the oldest wedding website in Seattle that I was able to find. I had no idea people were making them in 1996, but sure enough.

This website was voted Way Cool Wedding of the Week on the Way Cool Weddings website. Which makes me wonder…how many people get rid of their websites after their wedding, and how many people keep them. This is where I think a blog would have an advantage. Couples could still post all about their lives…kids, their homes etc. I guess only time will tell though.

And just for fun, if you can find a still active older wedding website in Washington state (pre-1996), send me an email and I’ll send you a Starbucks (or Tullys) gift card.

Inspiration: Local Italian Restaurant

On: May 21st, 2008 at 8:19 am | In: inspiration

My guy and I went out to a local Italian Restaurant a few weeks ago, and instead of pouring us water from a pitcher, the waiter sat us down to a table that had a wine bottle. We noticed that each had the label removed and was filled with water. Not only did it look great, but we could pour at our own pace. Which makes me wonder why this couldn’t be incorporated into a wedding setting. Then when your photographer snapped pictures of your wedding party and guests at the tables, you woudn’t see those plastic water bottles everywhere…only wine bottles.

Bonus: it’s better for the environment without even trying and you get to enjoy creating all the empty wine bottles.

Just finding a place that will sell bulk candles and votives for a reasonable price can be tough. Then what happens if you need to order enough for a 200-guest reception? To ease the wallet a bit, you can turn to Craig’s List. Here are a few listings this week that might fit your bill:

Pretty & colorful candle holders, went a little over board when I purchased them from Ikea last year. They would be a great accent to match decor for maybe a bedroom, small office, spa, bathroom, rec room, a party, outdoor patio, or you could alternate the colors for whatever mood you are in… Be creative!

votive candle holders, dark red- perfect for receptions - $35 (Spanaway)

Reply to: sale-684747223@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-05-17, 3:51PM PDT

I am selling 91 used dark red/burgandy glass votive candle holders. I used these as centerpieces for my wedding reception. Although these were handled with care, and have been stored in their original plastic containers, some of the red coating has chipped off some of the votives. I am asking $35 for all votives- I paid nearly $100 for them new. I would prefer to sell these as a LOT.

If interested please email me

The Office Wedding

On: May 19th, 2008 at 11:16 pm | In: life's eventful

I didn’t want to watch it, but my guy kept up a friendly persistence that finally won me over. We rented season one of The Office, the American adaptation of the British comedy series about life in an office at a paper company. It didn’t take long before I was hooked. What took four years to broadcast took us only a month to watch (thanks Netflix).

Then, as if the show weren’t embarrassing enough, they had a wedding. The boss, Michael Scott (played by the comic, Steve Carell) had a simple job…push the father of the bride in a wheelchair down the aisle. Anyone who’s seen this show knows that it was a recipe for disaster.

And it was.

Cheers to you, writers and producers. You have made me feel even more embarrassed than I ever thought possible. This one single episode has me looking over my shoulder for my own personal Michael Scott wedding moment. May it never come.

On: May 14th, 2008 at 12:04 pm | In: finds

I never thought I’d actually see one. Yes, it’s a camo dress. One of my guy’s friends has insinuated that this is the wedding dress he’d want his girlfriend to wear. That was reason enough for me to not to post this, but alas, I feel it must be shared.

Craig’s List Find: Ceremony Backdrop

On: May 13th, 2008 at 10:54 pm | In: finds, resources

I’m starting a brand new feature on my blog today. Partially inspired by my love for the Etsy Wedding blog, Weddingbee Classifieds feature and my love for Craig’s List. I’ll be looking for interesting, odd or fun wedding items on Craig’s List in Washington State. I imagine most of them will be in the Seattle area, but Belligham and Olympia have been known to surprise me.

My first Craig’s List post is dedicated to this gem: a custom built ceremony backdrop that can also be used as a room divider or garden trellis. I think this is a beautiful ceremony backdrop and reminds me of a recent magazine spread where the bride wanted a wall of candles and flowers.

Craig’s List Find #1

Room divider (or garden trellis?) - $25 (Magnolia)

Reply to: sale-669012112@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-05-05, 1:35PM PDT

This room divider type piece was custom made for a ceremony backdrop for a wedding and is ready to be re-used!

The whole unit is made out of 1×4 pieces of wood that have been painted black. Each square is 2×2, so the whole thing is 6 feet wide and 8 feet tall. There are triangle pieces at the base to keep it standing.

The unit is currently dis-assembled in 4 pieces (each 2 foot horizontal section), plus the bases, so it would be easy to transport - by you, not by me :)

It could be used as a wall decoration for candles/odds and ends, a room divider, or maybe even a garden trellis/outdoor furniture piece?

You pick up for $25 OBO.

Local Boards on Weddingbee

On: May 12th, 2008 at 10:37 pm | In: resources

There is a reigning champion when it comes to Seattle-area local boards. Sure Project Wedding has a few Seattle posters, and I’m sure there are a few boards out there I’m not aware of, but mostly…it’s been The Knot. I’ve recently jumped back on that board because my usual wedding haunt had no local feature. Today, however, that’s changed. I give you…

The Weddingbe Local Boards

And you better believe Seattle is on there. (Although that does make me wonder why Seattle is the only city to get recognition anywhere. I’m sure there are some Eastern Washington brides or even Olympia/Lacey brides.)

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the Knot boards, and they’re still the reigning champ, but the ads and the load time tend to bog it down. And it’s a website with content coming out of the ears, so finding the exact thing you’re looking for in a short amount of time can be tough. You’ll find me on both for now, but I’m curious to see how well Weddingbee does.

A $10,000 Wedding author is engaged!

On: May 7th, 2008 at 10:15 am | In: life's eventful

The title of this post says it all! One of my daily reads has added a new twist to her blog. Yes, she’s been finding fabulous wedding things without actually planning a wedding. But not anymore. Her guy asked her to marry him recently. I love this post.

Congratulations!
