Good Taste

Posted in: cake, flowers, review

Mark and Kris Barry of Barry’s Catering invited Garden of Eden Bouquets and myself to a tasting in Granite Falls. Not only is it a great opportunity to meet other vendors, but I get the chance put their food to the test. We set up a small booth, mingled with some of the couples and sampled some of the menues. Yum! While I’ll skip the breakdown of dinner (all three plates!), I can say that I would recommend them for a serious look. Barry’s catering has these tastings a few times a year to allow couples to sample, create a menu and meet the owners and like to work with couples on a budget.

Two new venue owners also showed up to mingle: Abba’s Sanctuary Community Hall, a church-like hall with theater seating and Paca Pride, a guest ranch with yurts, alpacas and resort amenities…luxury in the woods? Bring it on!

And a surprise guest was Tanya Akins, owner and creator of Tiers of Delight (awesome name by the way). Everyone seemed to enjoy the cake samples she brought: carrot, chocolate and white with raspberry filling. I admit, I only tried the white cake, but the frosting she chose….like the real homemade stuff you’d expect if a family member lovingly made your cake…was scrumptious. We talked cakes for a bit (I went through all three Wilton cake courses a few years ago) before she had to dash. I’d like to see more of her cakes…hopefully she’ll have a website up soon.

And of course what tasting would be complete without a small confession on my part (those two go together right?). Even though I handed out my cards to couples, the greatest fun I had there was simply talking about weddings. I must have talked to one couple for 20 minutes about their colors, venue, the outfits…face it, I love weddings. And while I hope they can use my services (or that of any good day-of coordinator), I really enjoy finding out what makes their day so cool.
